Rail
Spur and Yard Crane Addition
In
the tradition of Ole Rommesmo Sr., steel that would have ended
up in the scrap bin was recycled internally to fabricate a cranerunway
structure. Shorter lengths of wide flange and tubular sections
required for columns and beams were spliced into usable lengths.
Fargo Tank’s North yard has taken a different look over the
winter. Late last summer 100’ was added to our rail spur
to increase the holding capacity of railcars from three to five.
Prior to freeze up, concrete was poured to support a new crane
system. Over the winter we fabricated and erected the structural
system to support a refurbished overhead crane. A 10-ton, 63’-9” wide
overhead crane system was installed over the rail spur extension
to provide material handling of coils, reinforcing bar and other
material. The crane runway is 294’ long adding 18,522 square
feet of storage for reinforcing bar and completed tanks. 60’ long
reinforcing steel will be stored North of the rail spur. The stock
reinforcing bar will enter the rebar fabrication shop from the
West, flow through the cutting and bending operations ready to
load on a transport vehicle at the East door.
Congratulations
to the Detailing department for the design work, the Shops on the
fabrication of the structure, the Maintenance department for the
rebuilding of the crane and the Rebar department for the erection
of the runway structure. The bridge crane was set on the rail March
23rd and is now fully operational. A transfer system for the rebar
yard was completed in April.
